Yep, I've been seeing this wonderful person for the last week or so. She's great, her name rhymes with fate and she's been the reason I've had this smile crazy glued to my chevy chase for the past hundreds of hours...

Sep 30
I spent the night at my nephew, "Looj's" house in Santa Rosa on Wed. I drove there to play him a song I've been working on. It was pretty cool seeing him back to bachelor-dom. We had a few drinks and he said something that hit pretty close to home. He said that we have a responsibility as "Delfinos" to keep the torch aflame. He also said that my song and voice have potential and that I should go to an open mic. I told him he's had too much to drink, but he said that we were born with this stuff inside us. He also said a lot of people would kill for our talent. Hmm...So what I did yesterday was stop by Sausalito on the way home and randomly chose a park to sit down and finish the song. I also approached a stranger and sang the song to them. It felt pretty surreal, but it's not like I was totally nervous. We'll see what happens...
On my trip to Paso last weekend, my pal, Perry asked me if I had been reading any Dean Koontz books lately and I shamefully said, "Dude, I don't have time to read." He said that you should always make time to read, so I went to Target and bought a lamp then headed to Barnes and Hopeful. I bought two books I've been meaning to read. "Scratch" by Troon Macallister and Angels and Demons by Dan Brown. I learned that it saves money in the long run...
Yesterday I was surfing Linda Mar and I saw the most stunning girl out in the line up. I usually don't mention girls on this blog, but boy is she worth a line or two..We were chatting it up for about a half hour. Her smile is what got me...We both got out of the water at the same time. I was going to give her my number but I was again reduced to that bumbling fool I usually become when confronted with such exchanges...oh well, I'll see her again.

Random Happenings
Wow! What a weekend off. I'm still reeling from the experience. First off, I spent the night at my friend Perry's house in sunny Cayucos on Friday. I met Caitlin, a Cal Poly frosh who worked at HMB for dinner at Schooners.
Saturday morning, I get up, zip on my wetsuit and walk to the beach for a quick morning sesh. Waves were fun, and the sun was out. Got out of the water and then got dressed for the Bremer Invt'l. This is a tournament that my old boss puts on every year to mark his wedding anniversary. I shoot a 75 with four birdies but still come in fourth place. On a very sad note...I found out that one of the kids who worked for me at the cart barn passed away the weekend before in a car crash coming back from a party. He wasn't even driving...I learned about this at the turn and I was completely gutted. RIP Kyle Hubbard
After the tournament, I went to mingle with the players at Bremer after party. It was good seeing everyone there and to be quite honest I didn't think everyone would be so impacted by my arrival. I accepted the good tidings humbly. Next, I went to spend the night at Jafa Bro's house and met him there with his mom, Linda who was in town to help him recover with his post wrist OP. We had some drinks at the PR INN and then headed to the Pine Street Saloon for some K-A-R-A-O-K-E! No one was there so we owned the whole spot. We took turns singing with one of his friends, Erin who hosted her own Karaoke night. What a voice she had! It was like singing with an Angel. I, being no slouch on the mic, held my own and busted out such an eclectic songbook, even the country boys took notice.
Here is the list in no particular order
1. Living for the City - Stevie Wonder
2. The Chair - George Strait
3. Rock With You - Michael Jackson
4. Higher - Creed
5. I Get a Kick Out of You - Frank Sinatra
6. You're the One that I Want - Grease OST (duet with Erin)
7. She Thinks I Still Care - George Jones
I think I may have missed a couple, but all in all it was so much fun. A greta time, with great people.
Ever notice when you ask someone for their business card they almost always pull one out with writing on the back?
SubD-I gots the next 2 days off so I'll be sending that letter soon....Holla!

The Grind of a Lifetime
Wow, was that test tough! I missed by 11 strokes, but it was I was only two away from keeping my mind in the game. I was one under par on the second 18 going into the 9th hole with three shots to spare. I just needed to par all the way in. I bogeyed the next three holes and my mind went on vacation after that. The cruise control was set too early. At any rate, I am happy with the experience. I didn't come in with any expectations and I'm not too gutted with the outcome. Would I like to have that final nine back? Of course, but the point is I wasn't nervous to the point of anxiety. My goal yesterday was to see how my nerves would hold up and they did just fine. Now I know I can compete at that level without having the fear of whether or not I belong.
There's another one in November at the same course and you can bet I'll be there....stay tuned.
BTW the cut was at 157 and I scored 168.
